Park City Film Technical Manager

Overview:

The Technical Manager is responsible for the operations, management and routine maintenance of the projection system and audiovisual equipment at Park City Film—ensuring the highest standards of image, sound and picture quality and the seamless delivery of cinematic experiences for our moviegoing audiences.

The ideal candidate has experience with digital cinema systems, including DCP ingestion and playback, and a strong understanding of audio-visual equipment and troubleshooting. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment is required. Experience supervising or coordinating staff is preferred along with strong communication skills. Familiarity with basic website content management systems is beneficial. Candidates must be reliable, adaptable, and available to work a flexible work schedule, primarily evenings, weekends and occasional on-call and holiday availability. The Technical Manager reports to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, manage and maintain the Cinema’s projection systems according to established procedures and best practices; Coordinate with outside companies and vendors for parts and software updates.
  • Receive, track, and manage all incoming film media (DCP, Blu-ray, and other formats including both physical media and digital downloads).
  • Ingest and test all digital cinema packages (DCPs) and build playlists for weekly screenings.
  • Oversee all projection operations for weekly and special screenings.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during screenings as needed (remotely and/or onsite).
  • Serve as back-up projectionist for screenings when needed.
  • Update and maintain pre-show content including slides, trailers, and ads.
  • Schedule and supervise projectionists.
  • Train projection staff on equipment, procedures, and quality standards as needed.
  • Maintain and monitor all projection, audio, and theater equipment.
  • Perform routine checks and preventative maintenance.
  • Order and manage technical supplies.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth operations.

Requirements:

  • Experience with theater projection equipment and sound systems.
  • Knowledge of media servers and playback systems.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Working knowledge of video editing software.
  • Troubleshooting ability: Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, and to initiate troubleshooting steps to work towards a resolution.
  • Language skills: Ability to read and interpret documents in English as well as the ability to write routine correspondence in English. Ability to speak effectively in English before groups of customers or employees.
  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, walk, talk and hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally lift, push or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Ability to work independently and direct a small team.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to solve problems beyond temporary solutions.

Terms of Employment:

This is a part-time (~10 hours/week) position that assists with weekly weekend screenings (Fri-Sun), with flexible weekday tasks. Evening, weekend, holiday and on-call availability is required. This position reports to the Park City Film Executive Director. Pay rate is $25-$35/hr commensurate with experience.
