About the Film
This film won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It has been praised by critics as one of the most original American independent films in many years. This quasi-science-fiction story is set off the coast of Louisiana in a bayou community cut off from the rest of the world. A six-year-old girl, played by an astonishingly capable new young actress, exists on the brink of calamity. Buoyed by her childish optimism and extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair the structure of her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable catastrophes of epic proportions. Her tale has been compared to some of the greatest heroines of American literature.
