About the Film
Annette Bening has been nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe for her performance as a theatrical diva who mixes the melodrama of her on and off staged lives at will. Set in the London theater world of the 1930s, the film is based on a novel by W. Somerset Maugham. Bening’s performance is a pleasure as s he articulates emotions so effortlessly and yet so complex. The film costars the always-reliable Jeremy Irons.
