Born Into Brothels: Calcutta’s Red Light Kids

This year’s Best Documentary Academy Award winner, Born Into Brothels also won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004. The concerned filmmakers hand out cameras to children of prostitutes in Calcutta’s notorious Sonagachi district. This is the first time ever that the children are given a chance to talk about and illustrate their lives. They are recognized as individuals and artists. We follow the lives of the children as the filmmakers attempt to help them achieve a brighter future.
