Bran Nue Dae

This lively and unusual musical comedy follows a young man on a picaresque journey across Western Australia from Perth to his small hometown. He is running away from a Catholic seminary, pursued by its iron-willed headmaster played by the always interesting Geoffrey Rush. Bran Nue Dae was adapted from the hit stage musical by Jimmy Chi that was a major box-office success and multiple award winner in Australia. It is filled with exuberant and light-hearted song and dance. The film received its world premiere at the 2009 Melbourne Film Festival, where it received the Audience Award for Best Film.
