About the Film
Kumaré is the spirited invention of filmmaker Vikram Gandhi, a first-generation New Yorker fascinated by the way many Americans are drawn to the perceived mysticism of the East. Gandhi travels to Arizona to re-create himself as the new prophet in town, hoping to prove the absurdity of blind faith. As he makes up his wisdom on the fly, his camera crew records the reactions of the throngs of intelligent and thoughtful people who become Kumar?’s disciples. The unintended consequences of his social experiment force Gandhi to look at his profound impact on others, and on his own life.
