About the Film
In 1645, the French playwright and actor Molière is touring the French countryside with his traveling theater company. He has not yet been recognized as one of the continent’s great authors. Put in jail after skipping out on some unpaid debts, Moliere is freed after his fine is paid by a stranger. He discovers his benefactor is a very wealthy man who has a beautiful wife. Molière must pay off his debt working as his benefactor’s playwriting and acting coach but woos the mistress of the house on the sly. This comedy of manners, filled with disguises, double-entendres and bawdy humor follows the style of Molière’s best known works.
