About the Film
The historic conquest of one of Europe’s tallest mountains is the central event in this period drama inspired by a true story. In 1936, Nazi Germany is looking for a team to climb the north face of the Eiger. An experienced climbing team is found. While one member is willing to take the risk in the name of patriotism, the other is cynical about the Third Reich and says he’ll put his life on the line only for his own reasons and not to please Germany’s leaders. The two begin the perilous climb only to discover that an Austrian mountaineering team is now challenging them in a race to the top.
This film is noted for breathtaking scenery and daring cinematography. It was an official selection at the 2008 Locarno Film Festival.
