Alexander Payne (About Schmidt, Election) has fashioned a sly, tenderhearted and moving comedy. This film has garnered numerous Golden Globe nominations and is the Best Picture of the Year according to the New York Film Critics Circle. It is sure to be recognized at Oscar time. Two old friends, one of whom is getting married, take a final road trip up the California coast to play golf, sample wine and, as it turns out, get into a whole lot of trouble. There are plenty of laughs along the way. This is a beautifully observed story of personal foibles, romantic desire and the two sides of the sadly predictable male animal.
