This film won the Palm d’Or, the highest prize at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. In an imaginative adaptation of his own novel about his experiences working in one of Paris’s roughest neighborhoods, Francois Begaudeau stars as himself a passionate French teacher who presides over a classroom of diverse young students. Using a largely improvisational shooting style and non-actors, The Class exhilarates with its lively, authentic classroom banter while its emotional undercurrents slowly come to a boil.
