About the Film
Directed by the acclaimed Stephen Frears, The Queen is an intimate, revealing and often humorous portrait of the British royal family in crisis immediately following the death of Princess Diana. It stars Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II, James Cromwell as Prince Phillip and Michael Sheen as Tony Blair. Following Diana’s tragic death, the royal family stayed at their summer home in Balmoral, Scotland rather than returning to London as the British citizens were traumatized by the loss of the “people’s princess.” Based on fact, the film shows the inner workings of the Windsor family at a very difficult time. Mirren is sure to be nominated for an Academy Award for her riveting performance.
