Directed by the acclaimed Pedro Almodovar, Volver stars Penelope Cruz who has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress this year. This is Cruz’s finest performance to date as a harried working mother trying to protect her daughter from her couch potato husband who may or may not be the father. In the middle of frantically juggling her urban life, word comes that her long dead mother has appeared as a spirit and is haunting the village of her birth. Skeletons start leaping out of the family closet creating an energentic and comic story that make this one of the most pleasing films of the year in any language.
