About the Film
This is a lovely present-day fable about a 12-year-old tomboy in a modern day Maori community living on the rugged coast of New Zealand. The girl’s grandfather is searching among the boys of the community for the next tribal leader to emerge, but excludes his own granddaughter from the search. This is a moving story of female empowerment and the rebirth of dormant cultural traditions. The story weaves the realities of modern life with the power of mysticism to create a unique cinematic experience.
