About the Film
The Made in Utah: Mid-Length Series is an exciting new program within Park City Film’s Made in Utah Film program. This year’s selections include “Home River,” directed by Scott Thornton and Kati Ericksen and “What the River Knows,” directed by Diego Riley and Will Buckley. Each film will be followed by a discussion with the directors, and a filmmaker lounge after the conclusion of the film screenings is open to all – a space for filmmakers, attendees and film industry professionals to mingle and celebrate. Wine and beer available for purchase.
About the films:
Home River (dirs. Scott Thornton and Kati Ericksen), 26min
In 2017, three Sámi women broke the law to protect their traditions. The Sámi people had fished the Deatnu River as a livelihood and spiritual practice for centuries until Finland enforced unprecedented restrictions on the river. In a monumental case for Indigenous rights, Kati, Ánne, and Heidi fought the state to keep their culture alive.
What the River Knows (dirs. Diego Riley and Will Buckley), 34min
For the past several years, a lost Eden drowned under Lake Powell has been re-emerging, revealing the follies of the past and a new way forward for the Colorado River. “What The River Knows” is a film that explores this unique inflection point in a centuries-long history. At the same time that we are met with the need to redesign our systems of water management in the West, we are presented with the opportunity to restore one of the most stunning landscapes on the planet.
The mission of the Made in Utah Film Series is to create a platform to showcase Utah’s unique voices, talent, locations and creativity. Selected films are either made in Utah and/or by Utah-based filmmakers. Our vision is to foster connections between filmmakers and audiences, creating an environment where collaboration and creativity can thrive. Supported with grant funding from the Utah Film Commission.
