About the Film
Starring Academy Award Nominated Actor David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike, “A United Kingdom” is based on the extraordinary true events of the King of Botswana and his relationship with a white London office worker. When the couple marries they are challenged by their families and the British and South African governments. Set in 1947 right after South Africa had introduced the policy of Apartheid, the governments found the notion of a biracial couple ruling a neighboring country intolerable. South Africa threatened the British: either thwart the couple or be denied access to South African uranium and gold.
